Regarding the decline of arcades, another point worth mentioning is the demise of "Arcade Perfect" home console versions of games. Remember those? Half of the appeal of going to an arcade was playing games that were simply not possible on home console hardware. That graphical fidelity void is now non-existent though........

Haha! Yeah. I used to love Power Drift, and that was completely not possible on home hardware, thought the Amiga did an admirable job (shame they forgot to back the tech with some gameplay)
I remember when you could play for more than 5 minutes on a single credit. Charging a quid for a couple of minutes of mediocre gameplay was where arcade game shot themselves in the face with their knifeguns.
