Summary

Dragon's Crown is a brawler of a type rarely seen these days. It comes from designer George Kamitani, who made his name on the Dungeons & Dragons series produced by Capcom in the early '90s. Those games took the mechanics of titles such as Final Fight and added substantial inventories and XP. Dragon's Crown follows in that line, bringing a lush fantasy world to life.

The game has a really strong visual. It looks west to bring a sword and sorcery to the screen in an exaggerated, lushly-painted style. The world is populated by barabarians, sorceresses, goblins, dragons and just about every other sort of mystical figure/creature you could ask for.

Your mission is to dig into the dank underworld to uncover the secret of the dragon threatening the world. That means dungeons, of course, and dungeons mean treasure and building experience. The classes up for grabs are Fighter, Amazon, Elf, Sorceress, Wizard, and Dwarf, with loads of customisation options sitting at your disposal.

While the game certainly works as a single-player experience, there's a four-player co-op mode available online to make the magic really happen. Here the depth of the combat really becomes apparent and players with fond memories of the likes of Golden Axe will find it presses all the right buttons.
