In case you need any proof that Supermassive Games, the developer of Until Dawn, has a deep love of the horror genre, the evidence is right there in the set-up.
In this PlayStation 4 exclusive survival horror title eight attractive friends have gathered in a remote cabin at the top of a snowy mountain. Their only transport? An unreliable cable car. The reason for their trip? To mark the disappearance of some friends in the surrounding woods. What could possibly go wrong?
The answer, which you no doubt knew, is 'everything'.
This is not a game with a huge, expansive game world. Rather, it offers a tightly-focused, extremely hostile environment that badly wants you dead. The game is built using the Killzone Shadowfall engine, and it shows in the terrifyingly beautiful landscape and interactive gameplay.
Perhaps the biggest draw, though, is the tough decision-and-consequence style of the narrative. The ways that the story can branch - and decisions can come back to haunt you - are so numerous that Supermassive Games boasts that no two playthroughs will be the same.
That's rounded out with a heavy-hitting cast of actors drawn from Hollywood, including Hayden Panettiere (Heroes, Nashville) and Rami Malek.
