Summary

Ever since the days of Wii Sports, sports games have been the genre of choice to really show off games consoles' motion-sensing capabilities. It comes as no surprise, then, that Microsoft has had Rare develop a brand new entry into the Kinect Sports series for Kinect 2.0 on the Xbox One.

If you didn't play either of the previous games, that means that you get to control the various sports with your body as the controller. No need to hold any remotes or nunchuks - Kinect's full body-tracking technology senses your movements and feeds them into the game.

Setting this game apart from others in the series is the nature of the sports on offer. While motion sports mainstays such as tennis, bowling and football are still on offer, more 'extreme' sports such as rock climbing, wave racing (or 'wake racing') and target shooting have been brought to the fore, too.

Using Kinect to get a scan of the player, Kinect Sports Rivals builds players their very own avatar to represent them in the game. There's also more of a story for that avatar this time out. Rather than just being dropped into different events in the various settings on offer, players must progress through each event, mastering them to go from rookie to elite status. All the while, no less than three rival teams are vying to get you on their team.

Kinect Sports Rivals looks like the best way yet to put your Xbox One's Kinect hardware through its paces, as well as get everyone in the family active in the living room.
