Summary

One of the marquee names of real-time strategy gaming is back, and it's added to its pedigree. With Ensemble, the studio that birthed the Halo Wars sci-fi spin-off, gone, the esteemed developer of the Total War series, Creative Assembly, has taken up the reigns.

A new enemy has risen to threaten the Halo universe and once again it's not the mission of a lone hero to fight it so much as it is a masterfully-commanded army. The crew on board the Spirit of Fire is the only thing standing in the way of The Banished, and you're at the helm.

The action takes place on the mythical Ark, the largest and most mysterious installation ever created by the Forerunners, and it also happens to be the biggest ever Halo battlefield. Players will command forces like Warthogs, Scorpions, and brand new units across an epic environment.

As well as a campaign mode in which players put Captain Cutter and its crew through their paces there are plenty of multiplayer options for players to sink their teeth into. As well as the likes of skirmish (just duke it out); strongholds (capture and control bases); domination (grab nodes to take control of the entire Ark) and deathmatch (exactly what you think it is) players will get a brand new multiplayer mode - Blitz. For Blitz, you collect cards in the campaign and by completing daily challenges. You'll then go into battle with a 12 card deck that dictates what kinds of units you can send in.

Halo Wars 2 has taken eight years to get here, but there's plenty for fans to get excited about.
