That was what some bright spark over at Namco-Bandai thought, anyway. The photo to the right shows one Sumiko Nishioka at a Japanese event held over the weekend to get kids interested in the upcoming Kekkaishi: Karasumori Ayakashi Kidan for the DS.
The game is based on a popular manga series about a 14-year-old boy and magic. There's little by way of leather, PVC or chains to be found. Fetishists should probably look towards Hentai dating/porn games rather than to Kekkaishi: Karasumori Ayakashi Kidan for their gaming fix.
Were the kids getting too rowdy? Did they need toughening up? Is Japan more liberal than we imagine it to be? Who can say? But either way, the girls in the background look suitably terrified. Chalk it up to another PR embarrassment for gaming.

Sure, but we're taling about a country that to this day has a great deal of censored live action and hentai pornography. Hell, pubic hair could not be shown for half a decade! Surely that counts for something conservative...

It's part of the Japanese enigma, isn't it? It's easier (for a non Gaijin) to get blown or wanked in Japan than almost anywhere in the world. But if you are looking at depictions of the nude body, the genitalia must be thin film pixelated.
But compared to England, or the USA, where you can get uncensored pictures easily, I still think Japan has a wonderfully liberal attitude to sex.

Indeed, while some things are great in japan, somethings are questionable. Just goes to show no society is perfect, not even them.
While the japanese attitude to sex is pretty open, their birthrate is plummeting (perhaps you should google this for more info). Yes folks, even something simple like not chatting up girls or vice versa can gradually kill a country's populus.
So, next time you see that girl you think is cute on the bus, in the supermarket (eg), don't be scared to chat to her. Remember, somewhere out there is someone more scared to try than you, with much more at stake if they don't.

Japan's repression has been foisted on them by the west... but it's not the reason for their falling birth rate. The birthrate decline phenomenon is happening in most major western countries.
It's not an indication that there is more repression, or less sex happening. There is probably more sex than ever. But with increased prevalence of sexual diseases, and awareness of AIDS/HIV people are using prophylactics, so fewer accidents are happening. Add the fact that more people are career focussed, or want holidays and toys rather than commitment and responsibility, and you have fewer planned births too.
