DS Lite Cracking Up?

I've had mine for a couple of months; no problem and I use it every day.

In my opinion it is probably self created(ie dropped).

A bit disturbing...

i was planning to pick one up, and give my old DS away (g/f). Let's hope Nintendo makes a statement about this soon, confirming a faulty badge, or a nice replacement service.

i offered my old DS to my gf,she couldnt of been less interested,but to be fair she has the gaming coordination of a 4year old.

i have a nice black DSlite,no problems as of yet,touch wood.

I would definitely like to know what they mean by many people reporting it. where exactly and how many?

Increasing? at what rate?

you realize that there are MILLIONS of ds sold around the world.. and that even 300 (which i very much doubt they're over 100-150 online reports...not to say about 20...) are not something serious to consider.

I don't necessarilly think it's a misuse thing, but it also may not be a major deal.

I own a Sager 5690, a speedy machine even if it's 2 years old (supposedly it can run oblivion, so not bad for a 2 year old lappy). On some models, the hinge for the screen cracks. some get it, some don't. Mine doesn't.

so, some people were obviously worried when they heard about this, but there were never any reports that the screen came loose, or that the hinge itself was damaged - just the outside casing.

It may not look as nice, but they still function.

Perhaps this DSL is the same deal.

I'm not entirely sure what you are saying there. But using traditional stats, you'd expect 20 complaints to equal about 2,000 problems.

But now that the Internet, blogs, forums etc make it much, much easier for people to complain, it probably a lot lower.

And this just illustrates Tyrion's point (in another thread) that new hardware has problems. Always. They get sorted and we move on. But somehow, I'm sure the Nintendo loving Sony hating contingent will forget this WAY WAY WAY before they stop harping on about the PS2 problems that were sorted years ago.

See, but you will never know what people consider to be "normal usage". One could perceive this to be having it dangling from a 4 year olds hand via wrist strap. I take immaculate care of all my portables, but s**t does happen. Infact, I've accidentally dropped my DSL already, and it still works fine. My original DS went through similiar torment, was charging on a table when the vacuum cleaner came by and ripped it right off the table when it snagged the cord. Heck my GBC had a run in with the bathtub, and countless GBA games have seen the inner worrkings of a laundry machine.

Nintendo builds quality stuff, treat it like an electronic device and not a childrens toy and you will be fine. It's not an action figure, it's a piece of electronic equipment, its treatment should be as such.

im on my 3rd ds lite. the first had a dead pixel, the second had a loose touch screen which may or may not have something to do with the fact i sat on it.

the r button on this 3rd lite seems a bit stiff but im just going deal, im probably being pedantic on this last one.

My first PSP had whole clusters of dead pixels, my 2nd one had dust under the cover, and my third one now has 1 dead pixel. Of all the PSP's I've seen, mine is of the best quality. Many people have settled for having a single dead pixel on their psp.

As of now I have never owned a defective nintendo product, good luck? Or good product...

well, my nes, snes, nintendo 64 and gamecube still work flawlessly after years upon years of being battered by gameplay and accidents, so id say good product.

My first PSP (a day zero Japanese import) was perfect. Still is. The one I bought my brother's for his birthday was perfect. Still is. My first PlayStation still works. My first PS2 still works. The SLC7-UB Betamax video recorder that I bought in 1982 still works. The Trinitron TV I sold in 1999 when I bought my first projector (a Sony projector, now I think of it!) still worked, for all I know it still does. The projector worked perfectly for two years, untilt he bulb life expired - and I opted to buy a new projector rather than a new bulb.

So maybe we're both lucky...

I'd have to say that I am too then.

My PSP has no issues, day one UK release, so there's still time! My PS1 still works and my day one UK PS2 only started having intermittent read issues last year and only with GT4. And that was after it had been the SPOnG PS2 test machine for a couple of years, with me taking it home every weekend and sometimes every night. The issue was probably an alignment one. Besides I wanted an excuse to buy a slimline!

In addition, my Sony DVD player/amp works perfectly and as far as I know every Sony product that my friends have owned has been OK.

Never had any broken Nintendo products.

Went through 3 PS1s, and haven't bought another one since the third.
