Summary

Puzzle games have become more and more complex in recent years, in attempts to overcome some of the original classics such as Tetris and Puzzle Bobble. The truth remains that it’s the simplicity of these games that make them fun to play. The Magical Drop series of old has returned for PlayStation, and is as simple as it ever was. This particular version of Magical Drop 3 includes a full, extended version of the original, with over 200 mind-bending challenges.

While still strictly a puzzle game, Magical Drop does include a number of weak plot lines based around each character, giving the game a small sense of progression. The learning curve is minimal; such is the simplicity of MD. The challenge is to prevent a series of random coloured drops from reaching the bottom of your grid. To do this, you must take a number of drops of the same colour, and match at least three of them together, forcing them to dissolve. Progress makes the matching of these drops harder, thus making the game harder. Your ability to see combinations of colours quickly will be reflected in you final score.

Magical Drop is one of many titles that provokes the reaction of ‘just one more go.’ To be addicted to something can be a good thing – usually.
