Summary

As a launch title for Sony’s first delve into the industry with PlayStation, Ridge Racer was one of the first 3D arcade titles to be made available for home use, and as such it had a lot of hype to live up to.

Ridge Racer is a straight conversion from arcade to platform, no additions included, but it would seem the customers were quite happy with this, as it quickly became the best selling launch title for the PlayStation. For the first time gamers could take advantage of unlimited play without burning a hole in their pocket. Novelty factor aside, what else does Ridge Racer have to offer?

Gamers unfamiliar with Ridge Racer or who don’t go down to the arcades very often, maybe have been a little discouraged to discover that there is only one track in this racer. Developer Namco, have utilised the single track to create many, many hours of fantastic game play. Namco have put a lot of thought into this track, it has straights, hairpin corners, everything you could want in a track.

Ridge Racer has retained it’s superb game play in the conversion to PlayStation, and with so many ways to race a track, this will be a great game for many arcade fans.
