Summary

For gamers of a certain bent, that is to say, old timers with a flavour for shooting ten bells out everything is sight, the very mention of 1942 is likely to trigger a misty-eyed expression.

1942 is one in a long line of shoot 'em ups that made if from the arcade onto the 64, and it's one that's faired very well, losing very little in the translation. While it might be a bit short in the graphics department, the gameplay is spot on. C64's rendition of 1942 is the next best thing to having your very own arcade cabinet .

Even when played on an up-to-date PC via an emulator, it still puts many a contemporary shooter to shame.
