Summary

This budget re-release of Alien Breed gave Team17 the opportunity to implement some of the comments and suggestions made by fans and reviewers of the game. This kind of remixing was not common at the time, and quickly cemented Team17's reputation for value.

The game's essentially the same Gauntlet style multi-way scrolling viewed-from-above shoot 'em up as before, but the number of levels was doubled to 12. Some of these new levels were 'dark' levels, where some of the dramatic tension from the very dimly lit 'Alien' movie was echoed in the game. In these levels, the aliens were only visible by their glowing blue eyes. The other major addition to ABSE was that of level codes, so you didn't have to start right at the beginning, or use a cheat code if you got killed.
