Summary

It’s easy to see why so many people regard Civilization as the ultimate in turn-based strategy games once you start to play it. Its open-ended structure allows players to tackle the gameplay in a seemingly limitless number of ways. Civilization is all about empire building. You control a race of people throughout time and are directly responsible for every single action they take. You can win this game in several different ways. The choice is yours.

Civilization 2 improves considerably on its predecessor in several key ways. The most obvious area has to be graphics. The sequel can hold its head high while the original looks extremely outdated, especially when compared to modern titles. Civilization 2 gives you even more of what made Civilization great.

So what kind of ruler are you going to be? Think of Civilization like this: building, diplomacy and conquest. Initially, you must explore the world and decide on suitable locations to construct your buildings. The choices you make early on in the game in regards to technology will have an effect on future technologies. The game world can be generated each time you play, so each new game is as enjoyable as the first.

How you deal with the other great leaders of the world is important to your success rating. Do you try to make peace with them or do you send your armies in and take what you like?

In Civilization 2 the wonders of the world are brought to life with the help of full motion video and you can even influence history’s landmark events. Play pre-set scenarios such as World War 2 or live in the era of the Roman Empire.

Civilization 2 is an amazingly detailed and immersive game, and unmissable if you are a strategy fan.
