Summary

The Simpsons would like to welcome you to Virtual Springfield. The Simpsons are one of the finest examples of American comedy, two-dimensional yet multi-layered and appealing to all ages. Episodes of the Simpsons have a tendency to be amusing even after you’ve seen them four times or five times. What could be better than exploring the town of Springfield where the Simpsons and their friends reside?

Like the television show, this title is designed to make you laugh and it actually succeeds. You have the opportunity to wander the streets of Springfield and visit all of the popular locations from the show. It’s nice to see so many references to past shows, Marge’s bowling ball or the infamous drinking bird, It’s Drinking the Water! There is a game here, but you can still enjoy this title even if you choose not to play it.

To pass the time there are a number of worthwhile distractions to entertain you. You can visit the Noiseland arcade, which has four playable arcade games, two of these have been featured on the show. Larry the Looter and the boxing game that Homer almost beat Bart at can be fun in themselves. Additionally, there are several sub-games like the donut toss and Flander’s bar game.

The game side of Virtual Springfield involves finding and collecting cards and items. Certain areas of the map are initially locked and you must use your exploratory skills to find the required items to unlock new scenes and find further cards. There are 74 collectors cards scattered around the town of Springfield and it will take you a long time to discover all of their locations. When you eventually find all of the cards you will be handsomely rewarded with secrets and a warm feeling of pride.
