Point and click role-playing games were very popular among the technologically limited days of the Commodore and Spectrum. As an 8-bit handheld format, such games were bound to go into production on Gameboy, but with a little more finesse. Then along came Deja Vu, a mysterious role playing adventure. Such was the quality of this game that a sequel was made, cleverly named Deja Vu 2. Even later still, a compilation of the two games was produced, and that brings me to the appropriate topic.
You take on the role of Ace Harding, a private detective who, in both games, has to solve the mystery given to him. In the former game, you spend most of your time looking for a cure to amnesia. In the latter, you are trapped in the city of Vegas, where you will find yourself dealing with notorious mob leaders.
As expected from the Gameboy, Deja Vu is deceptively simple in terms of looks, but the gameplay is actually quite complicated. You have a number commands which you must use to work your way through the many environments, and solve the mysteries as they come using the clues given to you along the way. The Deja Vu compilation is an intelligently developed game that will keep many of you bemused for a long time to come.
