Summary

Have you ever driven a sports convertible in the pouring rain? Ten years ago, I found myself in the passenger seat of a beach buggy, being transported at high speed down the motorway in a light drizzle. Ah, England in the summertime. Suffice to say that Roadsters brought back a few memories. Unlike my beach buggy experience, however, you can choose whether or not to go topless in this game. A nice touch is the fact that the weather can change during the course of a race in Roadsters. Indeed, there are a lot of nice touches in this game, so let us take a closer look.

At the start of the game, you are allocated funds to buy a cool little rag-top sports car. Some of the desirable motors initially on offer include Fiat, Ginetta and Alfa Romeo. Spoilt for choice already, aren't you? Right from the start, you're able to bet big money on your finishing position. As you progress through the competition, and depending on your success, you will be able to upgrade your car for optimum performance. This is essential if you are to compete in the next season's challenge and hopefully you will be able to move up a division. A single season consists of eight races in exotic and well-designed courses such as a ski resort, a temple and Area 51, complete with hovering UFO's. Before each start, you'll be informed of the race conditions but the aforementioned weather changes will necessitate the odd pit-stop for tyre changes.

While not exactly qualifying as a full-blown simulation, Roadsters delivers enough arcade-style thrills to keep you entertained with it's well-detailed graphics and immense playability.
