Summary

Another Resident Evil title, then. Well just before you think of clicking to another page, here’s the deal. Survivor is a little bit different to the other titles in the series in that it’s a 3D first-person shooter with no unnecessarily convoluted re-loading or usage of items and weapons. Less complicated and more of an arcade ‘blast ‘em away’ experience is truly the best description, and although it may seem a bit of a simplistic description, have no fear (not just yet, anyway), ‘cos there’s a lot of fun to be had playing this game. One or two genuine scares too.

After a helicopter crash, your character wakes to find himself bereft of memories and alone in town, except for the usual plethora of undead creatures who obviously don’t take kindly to having a living, breathing human around. Is there a valid reason for their being so hostile? Play and find out. However, set aside an hour or two to complete the game, as there are no save options:none of that typewriter ribbon guff for our sole survivor, rather a given number of lives and opportunities to continue if you die.

Quite why the good folks responsible for bringing us Resident Evil Survivor did so with no huge fanfare is a mystery. Graphically, it may look a little ragged around the edges, but it sounds fantastic, with it’s eerie groans and creaks, and an appropriately moody soundtrack. The scope of gameplay is enormous too, your character is completely at liberty to roam around the environment, and the blood and noise…oh, the blood and noise is everywhere. Use the gun if you like, but using the joypad is a little easier, even if it makes you feel less invincible. Boss game and a most worthwhile addition to the Resident Evil series.
