Summary

Messing about on the river? Thing of the past, mate. Sometime in early Spring 2000, a veritable glut of fishing simulations (yes, you heard, fishing simulations) started to become available for your console. Electronic Arts’ Championship Bass is up there with the best of them. Of course, fishing games have been around a long, long time, but hey, it’s the 21st century, and Jack Charlton is nowhere to be seen.

The lakes are stocked with the trophy bass of your wildest dreams. Choose the best tackle and bring all your fishing knowledge to bear, because these fish are hard-hitting, quick-striking lunkers with attitude to spare. It’s time to get out on the virtual lake and prove you have what it takes to land even the most stubborn bucketmouth. The split-screen puts you face-to-face with the fish as you struggle to reel them in. You really do have to play this game to appreciate just how much fun you can have, pretending your joypad is a carbon fibre fishing rod-just close the curtains and make sure there’s no-one watching while you play. These fighters will jump and shake and rip the line from your rod, and you won’t have to waterproof your sofa beforehand. Championship Bass is a fine reason to stay home. Leave the maggots in the tub.
