Since the gore ridden Resident Evil series, the horror/slash-em-up genre has become quite popular it seems. Sword of the Berserk offers all the gore and sword slaying action you could hope for in such a title. This is a real blood fest. Mmmm.
Set in the distant past, you get to take on the lead role of Guts (hence the title), the sword bearing hero of his time. And make no mistake; this is one hell of a sword.
There is a distinct RPG element to Guts Rage, you are presented with lots of dialogue and cut scenes, all blended with a strong storyline. In the technological days of 2000, it has become increasingly difficult to decipher the difference between real game and cut scene video footage. Such is the case here, as in-game graphics are used for cut scenes, giving fluidity to a beautiful game.
Upon first play of Guts Rage, you are thrown in at the deep end, as you face a hoard of soldiers to slash your way through. Its a bit frightening at first, but youll soon pick it up. Upon slashing these bad guys, you gain a small amount of Rage Energy, whereby if you fill the meter, Guts will go into rage mode. His eye will glow a crimson colour, and for a limited length of time, both his attacks and defences will be increased.
For those of you who like a good one-player interactive horror story from time to time will really enjoy this. Kids, stay away.
