Summary

One of the most popular genres for the PC platform is the strategy combat game. Continuing the trend, and courtesy of Paramount, Gizmo and Pan Interactive bring us Dominion Wars, a Star Trek-based game from the Deep Space Nine TV series. Fans of sci-fi and Star Trek can now take sides in the ultimate war for the Alpha Quadrant.

Taking place over the final two seasons of the Deep Space Nine series, the threat of the Dominion forces a temporary alliance between the Federation and the Klingons. Taking a neutral sci-fi stance, Dominion Wars allows the player to participate as any of the concerned races. Whether you commit yourself to the Jem ‘Hadar or the Klingons, your foe is a formidable one.

Dominion Wars features 30 missions and three campaigns that spread across the stories of the four races. A heavy part of the gameplay requires the player to construct and prepare his/her fleet for upcoming battles. Defiant, Galaxy and Sovereign class star ships are available for the Federation, as well as a variety of all-new ships, designed specifically for the Dominion Wars game. Missions have been produced to incorporate multiple objectives that encourage, nay, require the player to adopt smart and efficient strategies. Gameplay is essentially viewable in two modes, either the traditional isometric point of view or a cinematic animation. Either way, the visuals look extremely impressive, featuring some amazingly accurate Star Trek models and movie-like special effects.

Dominion Wars is another reason for PC-owning Trekkies to get excited all over again, and the inclusion of a multi-player over LAN option is the icing on the cake.
