Summary

The original release of Grand Theft Auto sent the media into a frenzy over the nature of this title. Grand Theft Auto’s controversy factor, tagged with a 15+ ELSPA rating, spelled success. As unintentional as it may seem, GTA was marketed by the media. As they say, any publicity is good publicity. GTA’s success led to the release of GTA London, and finally, GTA 2, now on GameBoy Colour.

Since the other versions of the game looked 2-dimensional (despite being 3D) to begin with, Rockstar have been able to develop quite a faithful version for Nintendo’s ten-year-old handheld. Changes in gameplay are minimal, and as a result the structure of the game is just about identical to its 3D counterparts. Once again you must use your skills as a criminal you climb your way up the gang ladder, earning respect along the way. You must steal cars and escape the wrath of the police to prove yourself to your role model criminals.

As controversial as the Grand Theft Auto series is, there’s no denying the GTA2 is a good game, and very enjoyable to play.
