Summary

Konami have a long history of making brilliantly infuriating athletics based games. International Track and Field was their first outing in the arcades back in 1982. Hyper Olympics and a plethora of home computer and console releases followed this. The idea is simple. Press buttons as fast as you can in order to propel your athlete along a track or power him up in events like weight lifting.

The PlayStation 2 version remains true to this idea and makes no changes in game play. The real difference is in the presentation of the title. The game really takes advantage of the ESPN license and as such, looks like a major televised athletics meet. Everything is there that you would expect to see including realistic camera angles, perfect points of view and complete TV style replays.

Button bashing athletics games have failed to loose their appeal over the decades, seeing releases on all home systems. ESPN Track and Field comes straight from the inventors of the genre. Looking fantastic on the PlayStation 2, complete with a customised license, this game will be enjoyed by gamers and athletics fans alike.
