Summary

As the 2001 Formula 1 series gets underway, Video System has another F1 game ready for the PC. The F1 World Grand Prix series of games are regarded by many as being the definitive F1 titles. This new game includes all the season data from the year 2000, the year that Ferrari finally won the driver championship after 20 years of frustration. Now you can take to the driver’s seat to see if you can hold your own against the 20 best drivers in the world.

F1 World Grand Prix 2000 is an officially licensed product from the FIA. This means that you have all of the real names and teams in the game. Would you have it any other way?

There are two distinct styles of gameplay on offer here, Arcade and Grand Prix. The arcade mode is fun but remains challenging. Pick a team, driver and circuit and off you go. The Grand Prix mode is more of a simulation mode. You really need to be delicate, as the slightest mistake will see you spinning off the track. No one ever said driving a F1 car was easy.

The cars handle beautifully once you learn the entry speeds for the corners. Picking the latest possible braking spot, maintaining the right speed, hitting the apex and knowing when to start accelerating again is all part of learning the circuits. Once you can get it right, you can trim your lap times by the thousandth. Getting a corner right is a fantastic feeling. Be warned though, the harder you push the car the more difficult the game is.

If you have a top end PC and 3D card, F1 World Grand Prix 2000 will more than make use of it. This game looks and runs beautifully, another excellent Grand Prix game on the PC.
