Summary

Codemasters, the UK-based developer responsible for the A-list Colin McRae games, is continuing the expansion of its glorious portfolio with the release of Operation Flashpoint for PC.

Operation Flashpoint is, by and large, one heck of a real-time strategy game that has been developed in full 3D. As a PC game, Operation Flashpoint naturally reaches a wide audience of RTS (real-time strategy) players. Also, because the game has been developed for an ever -evolving platform, the visuals are quite stunning, utilising the most current technology available.

Assuming control of a large army plays a big part in Operation Flashpoint. Up to 12 units can be commanded at any one time, and you are given a variety of strategic menus in which you can formulate your strategies. The campaign as a whole is a non-linear adventure that is strengthened by comprehensive voice-overs and stunning cut-scenes. Operation Flashpoint’s level editor offers plenty of replay value. Here, players can customise their challenges to make the game easier or more challenging. But it’s the game’s multi-player option where most gamers will spend their time. Battling against a human challenger is far more satisfying; at least you get a reaction, verbal or otherwise.

Overall, there’s plenty to do here. Operation Flashpoint is large in size, has plenty of longevity and offers a good challenge. Can you really ask for anything more?
