Summary

Racing games have come to be considered a flooded genre in the industry, particularly on PlayStation. With the exception of Gran Turismo and the Ridge Racer series, there are few titles that stand out above the rest. Radio control games are seen to be a lot more fun and more of a party game, as shown with Micro Machines and Supersonic Racers. RC de Go from Taito puts itself between the two racing genres in a clever attempt to satisfy both audiences.

Dubbed by some people as “Petite Turismo,” RC de GO has many of the gameplay features of Gran Turismo. The game is not designed to be played with one RC car the whole time, but while this is an available option, you aren’t going to win many races this way. The competition, along with strict qualifying times means you will have to constantly upgrade your cars to stand a chance of progressing. Races can take place both on-road and off-road, depending purely on your own preferences, and there are distinct handling differences between the two types of vehicle.

Unfortunately, RC de GO cannot be placed under the party genre, since this is a one-player experience. It is a little difficult to see why the game couldn’t be made multi-player compliant. Other than this, RC de GO remains a respectable racer, and can still be fun to play. Bonuses and hidden extras should those fingers occupied for some time.
