Summary

Do you believe that you are good enough to join an elite anti-terrorist force? If so, then step up to the challenge set by Outtrigger on the Dreamcast. Outtrigger is an action-packed first person shooter by Sega and it rocks. Designed with multi-player in mind, Outtrigger is another triple ‘A’ title to breathe life into the fast-fading DC. Think fast, shoot fast and move even faster.

Outtrigger can be played in both first and third person perspectives, depending on your personal preference. Being able to see where your character is in relation to the environments makes the game a little easier to play, but the first-person mode is more realistic and rewarding. Of course, you can swap perspective in the middle of the fight if you choose.

In Outtrigger, you can play as one of four different characters. The differences are not just cosmetic, but attributes such as movement speed and damage are also variable and unique.

The pace of Outtrigger is fast and that makes it an exhilarating experience. The graphics are superb and run at a smooth 60 fps refresh rate. The weapons are equally as exciting as the visuals; grenades, photon torpedoes, flamethrowers, and then some. The power-ups add a tactical edge to the action. Health can be boosted, weapons become more powerful and thermo vision allows you to see behind walls.

The default control method leaves a little to be desired, but that can be easily modified. If you want to get the most from this game, use a keyboard and mouse configuration.

Outtrigger supports four-players simultaneously using a split-screen mode and if your Dreamcast is netted up, on-line play is also a reality. Quake 3 and Unreal Tournament are excellent first-person shooters, but Outtrigger is an original creation and is both highly playable and addictive.
