Summary

It’s officially licensed, it’s from EA and it says F1 on the box. This game, however, is not one which will have you clinging for all you’re worth to a steering wheel peripheral and leaning through the corners while sitting on your sofa.

No, this time you take a back seat, so to speak, and get fully involved in all the hard work that goes on behind the scenes. In the faster-than-lightning world of Formula One, it takes a combination of well thought out strategic decisions and long-term planning to beat the best. From signing the right engine supplier to a split-second change in your pit-stop strategy, every call you make means the difference between podium glory and the wooden spoon misery of failure.

With F1 Manager you can take on the likes of Jackie Stewart, Eddie Jordan and Alain Prost, and bring your Formula One team to the very pinnacle of motor sport by winning the FIA Formula One World Championship. And you can do it all at the click of a mouse. If you feel the need to experience the full-on aroma-rama of the pit lane, put the PC in the garage and surround yourself with oily rags. If you prefer to stay in the house, you’ll find F1 Manager just as absorbing an experience, only without the smelly element.

Fans of management sims may well find that, along with Geoff Crammond’s Grand Prix 3, F1 Manager may just lead to the discovery of a new favourite genre – Formula 1 Racing – and may have to buy a steering wheel after all. Fans of both Formula 1 and management sims will be frothing at the collective mouth. F1 Manager is the ideal compliment to the excellent F1 Championship Season 2000 or F1 2000, both, incidentally, also from EA. Yet another quality item, F1 Manager gets a podium finish quite comfortably.
