Summary

There are an excessive number of games that seem to be restricted to the eastern shores of the continent. Unfortunately, it’s highly probable that European gamers will never see the release of these games. Occasionally, a rare title seems to ship down the Northern Hemisphere and appear across the shores of Europe. Puchi Carat, it seems, is one of those titles.

As it turns out, Puchi Carat is a quirky little puzzler, and is based around light-hearted story lines. In simple terms, 12 characters hold one of the 12 gems each, and as one of those characters, your challenge is to acquire the other gems for yourself. Puchi Carat has a very consistent learning curve, and will continue to challenge the player throughout the game’s entirety. The GameBoy Color version remains faithful, and almost identical to any other versions of the series regardless of processing power, since the game is already presented in a 2D format. Four modes of play, including Story and Time Attack gives the game the longevity it needs to be an addictive experience. Once played, it will become immediately apparent that Puchi Carat bares striking similarities to the likes of Arkanoid and Puzzle Bobble; two classic originals.

If the two aforementioned titles are amongst your personal collection of classics, then Puchi Carat should prove to be quite a special little puzzler for retro fans.
