While EA is most popularly known for its sports releases, the companys Games division has also had massive success with their Ultima franchise. With the dawn of the Internet, EA produced two versions of Ultima Online. These games proved so successful that a third (and online-only) game was released, titled Ultima Online: The Third Dawn.
A major event in the past led the world of Ultima Online to be split into thousands of realities. Within these new worlds, new and individual civilisations formed, and so the past, present and future of this ever-evolving place lies in your hands. This is the world of Ultima Online.
As an online RPG, you can now participate in this epic game with a number of players across the world. To simplify things, a translator has been developed to breakdown the language barrier when communicating with other nations. Its very handy. As the third instalment, the game also features significantly improved visuals. Although still presented in a top-down 2D perspective, 3D elements have been incorporated. This makes the use of the games battles much more spectacular, particularly when playing with magic. Most other typical role-playing elements are still present though, including enormous status pages and complex battles, but thats no bad thing to the true hardcore player of the genre.
Third Dawn offers little in the originality department from the other games, but if it aint broke, dont fix it. Its an astonishing game that unites people across the world in a battle for supremacy in the world of Ultima Online. Maybe one day, all games will be made this way.
