Summary

The time is the 3rd millennium and the human race have completely overrun the planet. The spiralling size of the population combined with the advances in science and technology mean that we cover the Earth’s whole surface. This uncontrolled urbanisation is an ideal breeding ground for crime. The police and secret services are finding themselves no match for the power of organised crime. Street wars are breaking out almost daily. It’s time for the Hired Team to step in and put an end to this conflict.

Hired Team Trial Gold is a first-person shooter similar to Quake 3 and Unreal Tournament. Where Hired Team excels is in its story, it has an excellent narrative that slowly unfolds as you progress through the game. Its other strength is its multi-player capability. If you have a fast Internet connection or have access to a local area network, Hired Team becomes the game of choice.

Hired Team Trial Gold has five separate types of gameplay. You can choose between straightforward Deathmatch, co-operative, capture the flag, assault and finally, domination. The Deathmatch mode is kill or be killed, the player with highest number of kills within the time limit is the winner. Co-Operative is similar to Deathmatch, but played with teams, so make sure you don’t accidentally kill your team-mates. In capture the flag, players must retain said flag for as long as possible. Return the enemy’s flag to your base to score points. Assault mode is similar to capture the flag, but played with only one flag that spawns at a central location. In Domination, you must control certain icons at various sections of the level.

If you have a top-end graphics card, Hired Team will certainly make use of it. Techniques such as bump-mapping can be turned on to create realistic looking surfaces. With solid multi-player gaming action added to a variety of gameplay modes, Hired Team Trail Gold is up there with the best of them.
