Summary

Are you ready for some fast and fun racing action? If you don’t mind getting wet, get into your speedboat and get ready to race. Ever fancy tearing down the Thames in a speedboat? Well finally, you’re going to get your chance in Thames Racer. Oh, and forget that your speedboat is armed to the teeth, perfect for taking out the competition.

Thames Racer has three accurately mapped cities that include London, Venice and Amsterdam. You’ll even notice famous landmarks while you’re racing. If you have a decent graphics card this title looks sweet. The water effect is impressive and you even have a gentle bobbing effect as you bounce across the waves.

In Thames Racer you have three different modes to choose from, Championship, Quick Race and Sightseeing. The way to unlock the extra tracks, boats and cities is through the championship mode. If you manage to come first overall in a particular city, you open up the new courses. If you want to race in Venice you’ll have to open it up through this mode. The sightseeing mode allows you to take a leisurely cruise down the canals just to have a good look at the landmarks.

One of the best features in Thames Racer has to be the weapons. As you are racing different power-ups appear on the circuit, if you pick these up your boat becomes a destructive competitor. If someone cuts you up or takes the lead from you, a friendly rocket will show them exactly how you feel.

A good challenge, three realistically represented cities, and open race routes makes Thames Racer a worthwhile speedboat racing game.
