Summary

It’s Good! From Downtown, He’s on fire. NBA Jam returns to the GamBoy Color once again in the 2001 update to this popular series of portable basketball action. All of the fun of the console version now fits into your pocket and is ready to go wherever you go. NBA Jam is a 2 on 2 basketball game that features more than 140 players from all of the 29 real American teams. If you fancy yourself as a budding Kobe Bryant or Shaq O’neil, the get ready to Jam.

NBA Jam 2001 is firmly placed on the other end of the simulation spectrum and that’s to its credit. In a true simulation of the sport it would be impossible to leap from the half court line to dunk the ball. But this is a video game and having a laugh is what this is all about. The game principal is quite simple, make sure you have the most points when the time limit expires. Getting those points is going to be a little tougher than what you first think, the computer puts up some tough competition. You can even link-up two Game Boy Colors for head to head Jam action with your friends.

The gameplay in NBA Jam 2001 is fast and furious. You have a turbo button that can be used to give your player a dash of speed. You can use this to make a move to the basket or pull off a spectacular 360 degree slam dunks. From time to time power-ups appear in random places on the court. These power-ups give your player a multitude of different skills such as power to knock other players over, extra speed or being on fire. If you are fire you offensive and defensive skills are temporarily increased and you can pretty much score a bucket from anywhere.

NBA Jam 2001 is a quality, portable basketball game.
