Summary

One of 2001’s biggest summer blockbuster movies has to be Jurassic Park 3. Konami are releasing three Game Boy Advance games based around the story of this film. The first game of the trilogy is called DNA Factor. In this game you play either a photographer or pilot, and your objective is to recover DNA strands. You’ll have to outmanoeuvre and outsmart the dinosaurs if you want to stay alive.

DNA Factor is a side-scrolling platform game that features two levels of playing depth. This means that as you navigate the levels, your character can jump from the foreground to the background and vice-versa at certain points. This two-layered approach means that you can use evasion tactics to avoid becoming a dino-snack, and items can be hidden behind the scenery.

Once you have found all of the DNA capsules scattered throughout a level, the style of gameplay changes from a platformer to a shoot-em-up similar to Space Invaders or Gorf. In this end of level game, you must shoot bits of DNA in a revolving sequence. Different sequences will produce new species of dinosaurs.

DNA Factor is a big game, with over 12 levels to complete, and each level has its own unique obstacles and challenges. What good platformer would be complete without secret levels? DNA Factor doesn’t disappoint.
