Summary

Although video games based upon hit movies are now quite common, the production of a game based on a TV series is rare. Fort Boyard has had a mixed response from the TV industry and has been labelled as a Crystal Maze clone. Nevertheless, it was popular enough for Microids to produce a video game for Game Boy Color, cleverly titled Fort Boyard.

Now, the fact that there are no real rats, no serpents, no bats and no terrifying bungie jumps, takes the fear factor away from this game a little. Bar a few dingy environments that all take place in the same building, Fort Boyard has little to offer in terms of atmosphere.

But it’s rarely the look of the game that makes it a good game. So what does it have to offer in terms of gameplay? To begin with, you will control one of four different candidates who must undergo a series of mini games. Whatever the task you are given, you should do your best to succeed. Failure results in the loss of a team member. Lost members can only be regained through the game’s sub-levels. But be careful, the task given to you will not be easy.

Because Fort Boyard consists of a series of mini-games, there is plenty of variety here. It’s all 2D-scrolling antics, but it’s a lot of fun.
