Summary

Geoff Crammond’s Grand Prix series is widely regarded as the definitive collection of Formula 1 simulations. Grand Prix 2000 season is an add-on pack for Grand Prix 3 that improves the gaming experience and adds new driver, car and course data. This new bundle gives you both Grand Prix 3 and the 2000 season update.

Grand Prix 3 manages to capture the essence of real motor racing, the excitement, the adrenalin and the fierce competition. You can set the game up to your own personal preference and skill level. If you are new to Formula 1 racing, the computer can offer multiple driving assistances to help you. You can make you car indestructible, or have the computer help you with gears, braking and steering. As you become a more accomplished driver, you can gradually turn these assists off to make the game as realistic as you want.

The graphics in GP3 are stunning. The circuits are accurately modelled from real telemetry and the design team visited all the tracks to photograph them. There is little difference between playing this game and watching a race on TV. GP3 also supports force-feedback steering wheels, these wheels give you a physical feeling of what your car is doing and how much grip you have. This feature makes the game even more immersive and addictive.

Since Grand Prix 3 skipped the 1999 season, the 2000 add-on includes Indianapolis and Sepang, the Malaysian masterpiece of a track. These two new tracks add variety to the racing calendar and a new challenge.

Other improvements include updated team colours for the cars, and the addition of new buildings and camera crews. Geoff Crammond has tweaked the physics, the artificial intelligence and gameplay of Grand Prix 3 to offer a new level of realism. This is probably as close as we are going to come to driving a real F1 car. Even though we all think we could really do it, after several engine stalls and one major first corner incident, well, it wouldn’t be pretty.

Another new feature is the Hot Laps mode. Think of single-player time trials and qualifying sessions and you’ll have a good idea of what to expect. With other refinements to the 3D game engine, graphics, effects and sounds, Grand Prix 2000 season is a worthy update to a modern classic.

If you are a fan of Formula 1 or racing games in general, you simply can’t get better than Grand Prix 3, and this bundle represents great value for money.
