Summary

Microsoft’s Zoo Tycoon, although not original in the respect that it is like many other strategy management games, does demonstrate innovation in exploring the offerings of a virtual Zoo. It was successful. So much so, in fact, that the giant has just unleashed a prehistoric expansion pack called Dinosaur Digs.

It was great fun playing God with the camel/elephant/alligator population, but taking charge of and breeding a whole bunch of Dinosaurs is even more enjoyable, particularly when you get involved with a few T-Rex and Velociraptor experiments.

Building and managing your own Zoo is certainly an interesting way to make a living. Your job description as manager is broad. Just a few of the tasks involved within the game entail setting price points, managing the staff that run your park and keeping your guests happy. There are a vast number of variables to consider.

To further increase the longevity of the whole Zoo Tycoon experience, the Dinosaur Digs expansion comes complete with a selection of new scenarios, new building materials and staffing options, and a specific tutorial on the management of a prehistoric Zoo. It’s just like Jurassic Park! Feeding time in the T-Rex cage is lots of fun! Just be careful not to frighten your visitors.

Zoo Tycoon allows its players to build and manage a zoo from scratch. The playing area is positioned on a grid-like isometric environment in which you must maintain an organised park structure. As long as you don’t waste too much space within the playing environment, your park will be reasonably profitable.

Dinosaur Digs is definitely worth a look, and if you don’t own the original, you know where to buy it.
