Summary

Transformers? MechWarrior? Wrong on both counts - it's TDK's Robotech. Yes, it's time to fire up the giant Mechanoids once more for a little machine-on-machine action on PlayStation 2.

Having miraculously survived an alien bombardment, only you and your team are left to save and defend your home base, RDF 6. The Zentraedi is your enemy, and should you even suspect their alien presence, shoot first, ask questions later. You have people to protect, but weapons and resources are limited. Take care.

And so begins the game of Robotech. In a cel-shaded world of survival of the fittest, you'll be charged with successfully completing a varied plethora of single-player missions that include search and destroy missions, defence missions and escort missions. Technically, missions are non-linear, and the 3D world is yours to explore, but ignore your objectives and you guarantee failure.

Shooting, strafing, flying and jumping, you'll take on an army of enemies, each with their own strengths and weaknesses. Hesitate and it's game over - there's little margin for error in combat.

Besides single-player options, there are two distinct multi-player options - Normal mode and Battle mode. The latter of the two, it has to be said, is clearly the most playable and incredibly addictive. It's all good fun, but it's also a formidable challenge. This isn't robots in disguise, it's pure hardcore metal-on-metal action.
