Summary
Our favourite limbless hero has undergone some major changes since his first 2D outing in 1995. But he's still a hero and there's still lots to do in the world of electoons and protoons - time to embark on another platform adventure, don't you think?
For the third and perhaps most bizarre outing, Rayman's sidekick and best buddy Globox find himself in trouble again when he accidentally swallows the mighty Lord of the Dark Lums. The Hoodlums are not best pleased and so Globox finds himself the target of an onslaught of deadly critters who desperately want their leader back. It's Rayman to the rescue for a third time... oh dear.
Following in the footsteps of its immediate predecessor, Rayman 3 pits players in dozens of wonderfully rendered 3D fantasy environments, boasting spectacular lighting and shadow effects. There's plenty of variety within each gaming locale both visually and in gameplay terms, and the Xbox hardware ensures gameplay is effortlessly smooth.
Throughout the adventure, more than 20 different enemies stand between Rayman and his goals, each sporting what Ubi Soft refer to as advanced AI and specific strengths and combat strategies. But have no fear because, as always, a host of abilities and powers can be unearthed throughout the adventure such as Shock Rockets, Lockjaw, Vortex, Mini-Shoe car and other cool stuff.
Rayman 3 is a remarkably accomplished title, offering a hefty amount of play, a wealth of well designed and involving environments, and some great visuals. It's been four years since Rayman 2 and this third instalment is long overdue, but it's well worth the wait.
