Summary

Online RPGs for consoles were in their infancy when the original Dark Age of Camelot was released for PC, so the desktop onslaught of massively multi-player wizardry was quite welcome. But with all three console manufacturers venturing into online gaming, is the PC RPG doomed for oblivion? Absolutely not, and Shrouded Isles, the Dark Age of Camelot expansion pack is a fine example why.

The first expansion pack for the Mythic-developed RPG monster, Shrouded Isles stands to reinforce the medieval atmosphere of the original by extending the Camelot game world through three brand new continents, an improved game engine, new character classes, new races and an ambient musical soundtrack. In addition, a revamped user interface has been incorporated and is much easier to use. Add all this to the main game and you've got a real role-playing monster on your hands.

The main game of Dark Age of Camelot is a territory-based affair in which players from all over the planet can fight for the enemy's land in a skirmish of hit points and magic spells. The vast range of the game's playing variables means that each online player can adopt his or her own method of fighting, making Dark Age of Camelot a totally unpredictable experience. And this is what is unique about online games. Dark Age of Camelot will never be played the same way twice. Each time you connect to the online fantasy world, the scenario could be very different. You could be faced with easy-to-defeat newcomers or hardcore veterans. Caution is advised when choosing your friends and enemies in the world of Camelot. Go it alone and you could quickly find yourself in serious trouble. Form alliances and you stand a fighting chance against Camelot's evil.

Dark Age of Camelot as a stand-alone title is a well respected PC RPG, but combined with the Shrouded Isles expansion pack, it's now one of the most comprehensive and largest in its respective field.
