Summary

With the point-and-click strategy game becoming slowly obsolete, such games are becoming fewer and further between. American company Dreamcatcher seem determined to keep them on the shelves - witness this clumsily-titled oddity.

Like so many other games in this genre, The Omega Stone, effectively a Myst clone, pits players in an engrossing, time-consuming adventure complete with gorgeous hi-res backdrops and myriad NPCs.

After years of digging, a famous archaeologist uncovered a secret chamber and ancient papyrus scroll overlooked for centuries, that revealed the whereabouts of a treasure sought after for millennia - the Ark of the Covenant.

Further exploration led to the discovery of another prophetic scroll, the contents of which unravels an ominous mystery.

The archaeologist, Geoffreys, calls on you to lead the exploration and examination of the origins of this sacred scroll, the symbols of which point to cultures of great intelligence and refined intellects…

As far as the play mechanic is concerned, Omega Stone is virtually identical to every other game of this nature, and is therefore predictable and easy to learn. But what is not predictable is the game's story and unique characters. Players will indeed be kept guessing, but it'll be down to their own initiative to solve the mystery at hand. You'll have access to archaeological sites and you'll witness stunning replicas of some of the Earth's greatest mysteries such as Stonehenge.

The game looks astounding, with incredible backdrops, full-screen cut-scenes and an original and atmospheric soundtrack. It promises more than 50 hours of gameplay too - an admirable figure in any developer's book. Good stuff.
