Summary

Activision's ever-popular Total War games have continued to make their presence felt in the RTS genre for several years now, and there's no end in sight, with the release of the Viking Invasion expansion pack for the Medieval Total War original.

In 793AD, the Vikings attacked the monastery at Lindisfarne in Northumbria, killing the monks and nuns, destroying one of Northern Europe's great centres of learning, and carried off every precious object they could prise from the dead hands of the monks. This is the beginning of the grim historic adventure you will embark on within the Viking Invasion expansion pack.

The original game alone plays host to a collection of 10,000 warriors, fully destructible buildings, improved AI, detailed visuals and terrain, real-time sieges, in-depth character profiles, a new map system, special characters and a mind-blowing multi-player option. It was set in four centuries spanning from the preaching of the first crusade in 1095 to the fall of Constantinople in 1453, and took everything that was compelling about the critically acclaimed Shogun: Total War games and broke new ground with new levels of depth, accessibility, gameplay and strategy.

But the Viking Invasion add-on comes with a plethora of gaming goodness itself. Expectedly, Viking Invasion features a brand new Viking Era campaign, a refined map of Britain and Scandinavia and eight new factions including Saxons, Welsh, Scots and Northumbrians. Add new buildings and features such as drinking halls, sacrificial shrines and warrior holds, and new Viking Era military forces, and you have what is undeniably one of the most complete and polished historic RTS games around.
