Ubi Softs EverQuest is arguably one of the greatest and most successful role-playing games of all time. Time and time again, the series has proved itself with a variety of expansion packs and has recently ventured onto consoles with a release on PlayStation 2. But now theres a new entry from developer Rapid Eye that takes the best of EverQuest to create an in-depth and respectable strategy game in which players are charged with leading whole armies to global domination.
On this occasion players are taken to the fantasy world of Tunaria in which they are charged with controlling one of 15 powerful lords. Using your abilities, you must lead massive armies to victory as they strive for domination. Youll do battle with three unique factions as you travel the games many locales, and youll be able to command a variety of fantasy creatures such as Elves, Fiends and Dragons.
But in typical EverQuest fashion, battles arent a simple case of swords and shields. Its inspired by the RPG original, and as such, armies can be equipped with a plethora of magic spells and abilities to increase the players chance of victory. Spells can be used either for attacking or healing, some of which are earned through experience and levelling up.
With a selection of valuable items, online play, dozens of maps, high-res visuals and a potential 75 hours of gameplay, Lords of EverQuest isnt a traditional series offering, but its a great one nonetheless.
