Summary

Inspired by the original stories of R.E. Howard (and obviously the somewhat cringe-worthy Arnie films), the most legendary of barbarians finally gets a virtual reincarnation in this latest hack-n-slash adventure for Xbox. As you would hope, the game sees you step into the boots of super warrior Conan himself as you embark on a battle-packed adventure to seek some good old fashioned revenge and bring down a rather unsavoury adversary.

As the story would have it, the semi-naked sword-wielder returns from a recent bout of adventuring to his hometown of Grannach, only to find nothing but a mass of smouldering cinders and carnage. As a band of armoured riders depart from the destruction, our hero notices the symbol emblazoned on one of the rider's armour - the emblem of the Vulture Cult - at which point he realises his destiny and sets off on a quest to destroy them.

And so you begin your perilous quest as you roam the lands of Hyboria, laying waste to a wide variety of grisly foes. There are five expansive regions to explore in total, ranging from the Black Mountains of Cimmeria to the jungles of Dafar. Each area also offers a range of temples, caves and catacombs to discover, in which you must scale walls, leap obstacles, and solve a variety of puzzles.

As well as the aforementioned goal of ultimate revenge, the other main task to undertake is the collection of the lost parts of the legendary Atlantean Sword. There are 16 different weapons to uncover throughout your travels, including not only swords, but axes and maces as well, but it is this super sabre that holds the key to defeating the Vulture Cult.

As well as the single player adventure, Conan also offers an assortment of multiplayer modes, both locally and online via Xbox Live, in which you can fight it out one-on-one across 11 different arenas. So once you've thwarted the evil Vulture Cult you can then take your anger out on your mates - and we all like to do that, don't we?
