Summary

One of the biggest franchises in the world of toys, Mattel’s Hot Wheels series of miniature racing collectibles is hugely popular with kids, and perhaps even a few older collectors. Hot Wheels is continuing to evolve, and has made more than a dozen appearances in video games. That trend is set to continue with the release of World Race for PC.

Thrust into the Hot Wheels fantasy world once again, players are charged with partaking in a selection of futuristic racing events with a plethora of 35th anniversary edition motors from the Hot Wheels range. Many of the game’s circuits are reminiscent of classic racers such F-Zero X, Extreme G and Rollcage, in which players are challenged to race at breakneck speeds, up vertical walls and loops, looking for shortcuts in order to beat the opposition to the finish line.

The simple Hot Wheels play mechanic remains intact for World Race, making it easy to pick up. Simple gameplay however, means the challenge from your fellow racers is much greater, and you’ll need to race extremely well to succeed in some of the game’s later races.

Visually, the game looks great: quirky, clean and vibrant, and doesn’t disappoint, making World Race a great addition to the virtual Hot Wheels series.
