If reading George Orwell's 1984 didn't put you off the rigours of living in a totalitarian state but instead made you want to build one of your own, well, firstly, you're probably a bit of a sick puppy. Secondly, you're in for a treat with Electronic Arts' latest addition to the SimCity franchise, because the publisher - along with first time SimCity developer Tilted Windmill - has taken a change of tack.
Rather than opting for the usual management sim style that has characterised previous SimCity games, EA is encouraging players to experiment with mixing social energies to create different feels in their cities.
Fancy a police state where stragglers are picked off and re-conditioned for work? No problem! Want to create a grim urban monstrosity, characterised by towering smoke stacks and smog? This is your game. Want to create a lush, green, eco friendly paradise that uses only renewable energy? Look no further.
The combination of different social energies that you pick - industry, wealth, obedience, knowledge, devotion and creativity are all on offer - will produce wide ranging effects, meaning you could end up with a fun city of happy citizens playing in gingerbread houses or a haven of enterprise that's all about efficiency and turning a profit. The city's fate is in your hands!
