Summary

Kengo Zero invites players to live and die by the sword in feudal Japan, and features nine real Samurai warriors, including Musashi Miyamoto, Jubei Yagyu and Sanako Chiba. Battles are loosely based upon historical events such as the battle at Ganryujima and the raid on the Kira mansion, and each warrior has his or her own storyline, attack techniques and upgradeable attributes of health, stamina, attack power and defence. To recreate a realistic swordfighting experience, Kengo Zero's gameplay consists of a basic fighting system involving Attack, Block and Guard Break, as well as a Kumitachi system that recreates the excitement of Tsuba-zemariai (where two swordsmen are locked in a Kumitachi sword clinch and attempt to overpower each other.

Four modes of play offer a range of gameplay options, the heart of the game being the storyline-advancing Main Mode. In this mode, select a Samurai and fight your way towards achieving his/her goal. At the completion of a Samurai's story, you can save him/her as an AI character that has traits based on your gameplay. You can pit this AI character in a match against players on Xbox Live or against another AI character in the solo contest. Mission Mode challenges players to complete 10 missions within a specific time frame; Combat Mode that features two-player, head-to-head battles; and Xbox Live Leaderboard where players compete for new equipment and the best ranking against other Xbox Live gamers by pitting AI profiles against each other.
