Party Mode enables friends and family to join in 22 adrenaline-pumping minigames including Punt Return and 40 Yard Dash, and there's a new 5-on-5 mode in which neighbourhood-style tackle football comes to life on a smaller playing field for extra over-the-top fun.
Perhaps the neatest trick in the Wii version of Madden NFL 09 is the ability to create your own passing plays in real time. Simply select a receiver, then point to a spot on screen to show your players where to run. Brilliant! All this, and you can go play online too.
