Summary

Ever wanted to design your own shooter but don't have the tiniest squirt of an idea about how to programme? Don't worry about it. Developer Budcat has you covered with BlastWorks: Build, Fuse, Destroy. It also has a shoot 'em up worthy of merit on its own terms. See, BlastWorks is an old school sidescrolling shooter (with a funky twist) that comes with a vast and comprehensive level editor.

So, for those looking to just blast the flipping heck out of some stuff, you can make your way across a polygonal landscape doing just that. There is, however, an interesting catch. In a manner familiar to fans of Katamari, you'll find lots of stuff sticking to you. Namely, your enemies. As you do them in, they'll stick to you with their gun pointing in whatever direction it happened to be facing when you killed them. You can find yourself encased in a junk shield so thick you won't even know you're being shot at.

If you fancy yourself as a designer, however, there's a deep level editor that enables you to tinker with everything from ships and enemies right through bullet patterns and level layouts. Once you've created something, you'll then be able to hop online and share it with the world.

Rounding things out, there's a multiplayer mode that enables two to four players to team up and pilot one massive ship over the game's 15 campaign levels.
