Summary

Few DS games from the Western world have succeeded in generating as much hype as Scribblenauts, and it's looking well-deserved.

Coming from 5th Cell, the developer behind the ingenious Drawn to Life, Scribblenauts encourages players to complete levels with just about anything they can think of. All you have to do is type or write the name of the object you need onto your DS touch screen and it shall appear as if by gaming magic in front of you. Things start simple, but as things progress you'll have to solve head-scratching puzzles such as how to exterminate ants without upsetting a hippie or how to rid a multi-level building of a rat infestation. Each level presents you with a 'par' number of objects to complete it, and the idea is to either match that or come in underneath it.

The number of items at your disposal is huge. You've got reliable standbys such as [JETPACK] and [SUBMARINE], but you'll also be able to pull up a [STOT] or an [EGG BEATER], should the need arise. You might want to try [TIME MACHINE] and [YOUR MOM]. Basically, if it's not a trademarked item, alcoholic beverage or something vulgar, there's a really good chance you can pull it up.

The 200-odd levels are presented in a cartoony, sidescrolling manner packed with puzzles. The game doesn't end there, either. There's a level-building tool that enables you to cobble together your own stages then share them online.
