Summary

Sega is no stranger to compilations – the publisher simply loves to showcase its history to new gamers, be it with releases of Mega Drive titles on digital distribution platforms or with disc-based releases of a specific series. This time Sonic the Hedgehog is getting some love on the Nintendo DS, with Sonic Classic Collection.

The cartridge brings together the first four Sonic games from the 16-bit Mega Drive era: the original Sonic the Hedgehog, the epic Sonic the Hedgehog 2, Sonic the Hedgehog 3 and the lock-on capable Sonic & Knuckles. For those who only know the blue blur from recent titles like Sonic Unleashed, this is a good place for them to learn their roots.

Games are optimised for the Nintendo DS – don't worry about a shoddy port or anything like that, this is the real deal. Fast, looping segments will be just as good as you remembered them in the 1990s, only this time you get to do it on the train!

Along with the benefit of blasting through Chemical Plant Zone or Lava Reef Zone whilst on the go, Sonic Classic Collection adds a new 'save anywhere' feature – allowing players to immediately pause their progress and continue on at a later time. Convenient, or what? A treasure trove of extras can be viewed as well, including videos and collectible pictures.
