Summary

The Vietnam War – the first televised war, and the one with the coolest music, comes to PC gamers from Lace Mamba as a strategy/combat simulator.

Driven by a story concerning a unit of US troops at the height of the offensives in South Vietnam, Men of War: Vietnam features a host of weapons, tactics and strategies for the gamer to grasp in order to achieve final victory. The unit that the player must guide includes characters such as Sergeant John Merrill, machine gunner Jim Walsh, sniper Sonny Armstrong, grenade launcher operator Carl Dillan and combat engineer Bill Kirby.

This elite special forces squad must act together – and occasionally in concert with both regular US infantry grunts or the army of South Vietnamese. Either way, the 10-mission campaign means hard tests, tough decisions and lots of action.

As well as helicopters, the player will also get to use M-16, T-54, M-113, Patton III, M-60, AK-47, M-14, RPG-2, M-72 LAW, RPK and other weapons.

The Vietnam War saw the Huey helicopters – and other choppers – in heavy use and so does Men of War Vietnam the game, as the squad must rescue a downed pilot, escort a war reporter and even play out full scale battles.

Other events from the conflict include an ambush on the Ho Chi Minh trail, a game of cat and mouse in the Mekong Delta, raids into Cambodia and Laos, bridge defence during the Tet offensive and other historically relevant events.
